Filmed
in Wicklow

County Wicklow has played host to hundreds of films and television series down through the years.  The heritage of film-making goes all the way back to 1916, with a short film entitled ‘Food of Love’ produced by The Film Company of Ireland and starring and directed by J.M. Kerrigan.  Film production in Wicklow continued sporadically throughout the early decades of the 20th century, but really took off following the establishment of Ardmore studios in 1958.  Since that time, the quantity and scale of production has continued to increase. The opening and ongoing expansion of Ashford Studios in 2012 attracted a whole new raft of productions to the county, and helped to ensure continuing employment for the range of skilled crew who live in the county.  Some of the recent high-profile productions filmed in Wicklow include Wednesday (Season 2), Bad Sisters, The Pope’s Exorcist, Cocaine Bear, Disenchanted, The Wonder, The Watchers, Vikings, Braveheart and The Tudors to name but a few.  In addition to the big international headline-grabbing productions, Wicklow plays host to a large volume of smaller scale and home-grown productions.
