Synopsis

Epic series reveals the scandalous life of a young king whose affairs and obsession with producing a male heir changed marriage, the church, and the world.

Description

Multi Emmy Award Winner and numerous Golden Globe nominations. This entertaining costume drama features England’s splendid Renaissance dynasty under King Henry VIII. During his reign, his effectiveness as King is tested by international conflicts as well as political intrigue in his own court, while the pressure of fathering a male heir compels him to reject his wife Katherine of Aragon in favour of Anne Boleyn. Following her beheading Henry VIII went on to marry Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleeves as well as conducting a string of affairs, and fathers an illegitimate son, who later dies.
While the series was not a favourite with the critics it did extremely well with viewers all over the world who were wowed by the luscious costumes, stunning locations and steamy scenes. Filmed over four years in County Wicklow the making of The Tudors was an enormous boost for the Irish film industry employing over 200 crew and cast and over 1500 extras.

Vikings transports us to the brutal and mysterious world of Ragnar Lothbrok, a Viking warrior and farmer who yearns to explore–and raid–the distant shores across the ocean.

Description

The Viking Series premiered on March 3, 2013 on the History Channel and ran for a total of six seasons with broadcasting throughout the world!  The series was mostly shot in County Wicklow at the Ashford Studios.  With 60km of shoreline along the Irish Sea, the many lakes and mountains and Ireland’s largest forest area, Wicklow’s landscape offered the ideal diversity of locations to fit the many outdoor scenes.   It’s on the shore of the famous lough Tay that the set of the viking settlement of Kattegat is regularly set up.  The Lake can be best viewed from the Military Road.  Over the years of shooting, spotting Vikings’ Long ships along the Wicklow Coast was not unusual especially between the Black Castle in Wicklow Town and Brittas Bay.
