Synopsis

Scottish warrior William Wallace leads his countrymen in a rebellion to free his homeland from the tyranny of King Edward I of England.

Description

Mel Gibson was attracted to shoot a large part of Braveheart in Ireland by the promise of the Irish government that he would get the use of the reserve army for the extensive battle scenes, for which he needed fit and well-trained fighters. So many horses were needed for the battle scenes, that all horse owners in the Wicklow / Kildare area were invited to take part with their horses as extras. Director/producer Mel Gibson was investigated by the RSPCA, who were convinced that the fake horses used were real. Only when one of his assistants provided some videotaped footage of the location shooting were they convinced otherwise.

Synopsis

A young widow discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life.

Description

The movie itself is set in New York, however after one of the letters turns out to be a surprise trip to Ireland the girls find themselves trekking along the Wicklow Mountains. The scene where Holly and Gerry first meet is at the Sally Gap. While they walk together to find ‘Dun Laoghaire’ they are in fact in the beautiful village of Lacken, overlooking the Blessington lakes. The pub scenes in which they are singing and dancing at a bar were filmed at Whelan’s pub, on Wexford Street, in Dublin.

Synopsis

Five unmarried sisters make the most of their simple existence in rural Ireland in the 1930s.

Description

The small cottage was built in Coronation Plantation, which is near the Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains. Kippure Estate, on the way from the Sally Gap to Manor Kilbride, was used extensively as location in particular for the fire and dance scenes.
The small village of Hollywood became the set for the local village. Road scenes were shot around the Sally Gap and the Wicklow Mountains. Luggala Estate and nearby Lough Dan, near Roundwood, were also used as locations.
